Highlights of Vietnam & Cambodia 17 days
[updated 2024]

This is one of our favorite itineraries!

This 17-day tour features iconic sites from the 14-Day Highlights of Vietnam & Cambodia tour, with additional stops at Ninh Binh (known for its stunning scenery that our clients LOVE!), the Cu Chi Tunnels (a must-see if you're into Vietnam War history), and Banteay Srei temples (our personal favorite in Cambodia).

What we think? This trip is a winner!
Start off in Hanoi, famous for its bustling streets and mouth-watering street food such as Bun Cha. Hanoi is also the birthplace of Pho, the famous Vietnamese noodle soup that you've probably heard of. The good news is almost all hotels in Hanoi offer a Pho station where you can sample a hearty bowl for breakfast, like a true Vietnamese.

You will then depart for Ninh Binh, only a 2-hour drive from Hanoi, but it feels like a different world with sheer limestone mountains rising up from the paddies. One of the highlights for any travellers visiting Ninh Binh is a boat trip to Tam Coc or Trang An. Your boat person will row with their feet (not their hands!) and You'll be expertly guided along gentle waterways, past towering karsts, and into dripping grottoes.

From Ninh Binh its 3 hour drive to Ha Long Bay. One of the things that our clients love  is to relax and soak in the view of towering limestone formations from their private balcony.

Next, visit Hue, famous for its ancient citadels and royal tombs. Founded in 1687, Hue has always been considered the soul of Vietnam - the center for scholars, poets, philosophers, and emperors.

From Hue, it's only a 3.5-hour drive to Hoi An, a city that was once voted the 'best city on earth' by readers of Wanderlust Magazine. Hoi An is renowned for its cobbled streets and distinctive yellow shopfronts adorned with colorful lanterns, and delicious Vietnamese Banh Mi that you will see at every street corner.

From Hoi An, a quick hour-long flight takes you to Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon), a city steeped in rich historical significance and, in our opinion, an essential destination for history enthusiasts. During your 3-night stay, delve into the city's storied past as you explore iconic landmarks such as the War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, and Cu Chi Tunnels. You will also have a fascinating excursion to the Mekong Delta, where you can experience the vibrant local life along the river's maze of waterways.

Conclude your holiday with a trip to Cambodia, where you will visit temples that are on everyone's wish list: the magnificent Angkor Wat, along with the smiling faces of Bayon and the captivating Ta Phrom (featured in the movie Tomb Raider!), and our personal favorite, the Banteay Srei temples. Finish your trip in Phnom Penh, a city with a poignant past and a must-see destination for anybody interested in history.
