Vietnam: August Weather

August is mixed in terms of weather.
Though the wet season is in full swing in north and south Vietnam this month there is still a lot of dry hours in the day and the rain is usually very short and provides much needed relief from the intense heat.
August is one of the hottest months in central Vietnam so do plan a stay by the beach so that you can cool off easily!
Definitely consider travelling this month if you’d like to have a taste of tropical weather, prefer fewer crowds, don’t mind some downpours and want to take advantage of better prices!

North Vietnam

North Vietnam is truly in wet season with hot, humid weather and more rain. However the rain tends to be short and you still can bag yourself lots of dry hours. It can be overbearingly hot in Hanoi & Ha Long Bay but still very pleasant in mountainous areas such as Sapa, Mai Chau or Pu Luong. Sapa is truly spectacular this month with its lush green rice paddy field and definitely worth a visit!

Hanoi: hot & humid weather with more chances of rain which tends to last only a couple of hours. If you’d like to have a break from the heat (and rain) for a couple of hours while in Hanoi why not visit a traditional coffee house where you can try Vietnamese ‘egg coffee’ which is prepared with egg yolks, sugar, condensed milk & Robusta coffee (we are perhaps a bit biased but it is utterly delicious!)

Ha Long: Hot, humid weather with more frequent rain and sometimes storms that can affect cruises.

Sapa: Warm, sunny and very pleasant weather despite some downpours. It is any photographer’s dream to visit Sapa this month as the region is the most glorious this time of the year with beautiful rice paddy terraces and glorious mountain views.

Mai Chau: Warm, sunny with rising temperature but still worth a visit as Mai Chau is the greenest during those summer months. Lush bamboo forests, rice terraces & clear waterfalls are the highlight of this region this month.

Central Vietnam

August is one of the hottest months in the central region. The heat is intense but thanks to the long coastline it is more bearable here than most parts of the country. Local beaches are at their best with their calm blue waters and if you’d like some distraction from the heat Hue & Hoi An boasts some of the most wonderful historical sites for you to explore.

Hue: dry, sunny & hot weather. To escape the heat, plan your trip around early mornings/ late afternoons.

Hoi An: dry, sunny & hot weather. However, Hoi An beaches are at their best and you might want to head to the beach to cool off!

Nha Trang: hot, sunny weather throughout the whole of August makes Nha Trang an attractive option for a beach break

Da Lat: warm, pleasant weather with occasional rain.

South Vietnam

South Vietnam is well in wet season this month with hot and humid weather. We’d rather think the scale of these weather conditions makes it an attraction in itself. Intense heat, thunderstorms, beaches where the sand is too hot to step on – if you’d like a taste of tropical weather then it can’t get better than this!

Ho Chi Minh City:  Hot, sunny weather during the day with frequent afternoon downpour. Nights and early mornings are cooler with lower humidity.

Mekong Delta
: Hot, humid weather and frequent downpour but still with a lot of dry hours in between. If you are a fruit lover then August is one of the best months to visit the Mekong region. Delicious tropical fruits such as mango, durian, jack fruit and mangosteen are in season and a visit to a local orchard is a must!

Phu Quoc: Hot, humid and more frequent rain. Ever picture yourself shelter from the summer rain under a palm tree? Now you have the opportunity to do it!

Con Dao
: Sunny weather with short, intense rain that lasts over an hour or so which brings much need relief from the heat.
